Designing a dispatch center needs to take into account every angle of the room. Console workstations, supervisor areas, and offices must fit together in a way that supports the people who use the space every day. The goal isn’t just to place furniture; it’s to create a layout that enhances communication, streamlines supervision, and allows the entire operation to flow.
For this project, the customer needed more than rows of consoles, they needed a smarter design that balanced visibility, efficiency, and connection between spaces.
Project at a Glance
- Large-scale Dispatch Center
- Centralized Supervisor Platform
- Integrated Office and Conference Spaces
- Primary Challenges: Oversized floorplan, maintaining sightlines, connecting dispatch and office zones
The Request
The customer came to us looking for a layout that would improve supervision and workflow across a large, complex space. Their initial plan featured straight rows of consoles, a design that would maximize workstation count but severely limit visibility and communication.
In addition to optimizing the dispatch floor, they wanted the surrounding offices and meeting rooms to feel cohesive, both functionally and visually. The goal was to create an integrated environment where every element a – from the dispatch floor to the conference room – worked together seamlessly.
The Solution
Our approach began with collaboration. Working closely with the customer, we reimagined how the space could function. Instead of focusing on density, we focused on flow, sightlines, and usability.
We developed multiple floor plan options that explored how supervisors would interact with their teams, how dispatchers could move throughout the space, and how adjoining offices could support the overall operation.
Our design placed supervisors on a raised central platform, providing clear visibility across the entire floor. A mix of linear and corner Mercury Pro Consoles created a custom layout that balanced efficiency with openness, making it easier for supervisors to move quickly between teams.
Beyond the dispatch area, offices and conference spaces were furnished to support every role. From directors to assistants, each workspace was equipped with the right furniture and storage to enhance performance. In the conference room, a height-adjustable table became the centerpiece, ideal for both daily meetings and larger team gatherings. Finishes were carefully coordinated across all areas, bringing unity and visual cohesion to the center.
The Results
The customer was thrilled with the outcome. By moving away from a simple row-based layout, they gained a space that improved workflow, strengthened supervision, and connected every office and meeting room into one cohesive environment. The attention to detail, from floorplan design to furniture selection, transformed a challenging layout into a high-performing dispatch center built for teamwork and efficiency.
