Designing a center that not only supports day-to-day operations but also evolves to meet future needs takes creativity and collaboration. For this project, our team partnered with a public safety customer who had budget available to invest in the growth of their center but weren’t sure how to best use it. By working closely together, we created a plan to refresh their existing space, expand operations, and add an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to better serve their community.

- Primary Challenges: Expanding dispatch, upgrading locker room, integrating storage, and maximizing budget
The Request
The customer had been operating with a smaller staff and tighter budget when they first purchased Watson consoles. As their center grew, they needed to invest in thoughtful upgrades that would expand capacity, refresh staff spaces, and add an EOC to strengthen community support.
A key request was to enhance their locker room with a more efficient storage solution. They also wanted to modernize their dispatch area and ensure telecommunicators had the comfort and functionality they needed to succeed. Most importantly, they wanted to accomplish all this within budget while creating a cohesive, connected center.
The Solution
Our approach was centered on collaboration. Through planning sessions and detailed discussions, we helped clarify their priorities and designed a solution tailored to their unique needs.
To expand workflows and support the addition of the Emergency Operations Center, we incorporated six new Mercury Pro Consoles into the dispatch space. Storage was also a major focus, with forty-one new lateral file cabinets installed throughout the facility to provide organized and accessible solutions. In the locker room, we upgraded the space with fifty-two expansive lockers, each with a custom designed mail slot to streamline staff workflow and communication.
Together, these enhancements created a more comfortable and efficient environment for telecommunicators, with thoughtful touches that improved both daily function and overall flow.
The Results
The upgrades gave the center exactly what they needed, expanded capacity, smarter storage, and a refreshed locker room, all while staying within budget. The customer expressed appreciation for the time we took to understand their goals and deliver custom solutions that provided comfort, functionality, and a more unified space for their staff.
“I love when our team gets to create something specific for a customer. We were able to design a custom mail box solution that we added to their lockers, and it truly upgraded their space.”
