Designing for Comfort, Flow, and Flexibility

Designing a center that serves every department isn’t easy, but it’s a challenge we embrace. From dispatch to IT, and offices to conference rooms, each space comes with its own unique needs. For this project, we partnered closely with our customer to bring their vision to life, blending existing consoles with new furniture, maximizing the floor plan, and creating a vibrant, unified center where every department has a space designed just for them.

The Request

The customer needed more than just a redesign. They wanted a transformation. Their vision was clear: a center that would elevate day-to-day operations while also fostering a true sense of unity across departments. That meant a dispatch room that balanced existing with new consoles, a conference room that could flex between meetings and training sessions, personalized leadership offices with smart storage and meeting space, and an IT workroom built for comfort, workflow, and efficiency.

To make life easier for staff, the design also needed to incorporate shared spaces and lockers without sacrificing valuable square footage. With so many departments involved, the challenge was to meet every team’s unique needs while weaving the entire center into one cohesive, connected space.

The Solution

Collaboration was key. Our account manager worked hand-in-hand with the customer, hosting real-time planning sessions and meeting one-on-one with each department. This close partnership ensured the final layout didn’t just check boxes, it reflected both functional requirements and personal preferences.

A carefully chosen finish palette and thoughtfully selected furniture tied everything together, allowing the center to flow seamlessly from room to room.

Dispatch Room: Existing Mercury Pro Consoles were integrated with new Mercury Pro and Mercury Corner Consoles. Since dispatcher comfort was top priority, we created a custom layout that maximized space and added a central meeting table with a rotating center, giving staff a spot to recharge between shifts. Lockers with mail slots provided personal storage that was both practical and accessible.

Conference Room: Flexibility was the name of the game. Four training tables could merge into one large conference table or split apart into individual training stations, each equipped with integrated power for laptops and devices.

IT Work Room: Four height-adjustable desks, built-in storage, cabinets, and shelving made this a powerhouse space for technical workflows, balancing ergonomics with functionality.

Leadership Offices: The Director and Deputy Director spaces were personalized with corner desks, storage, and shelving. The Director’s office even included a small meeting table for quick team huddles. Supervisor and general offices were designed with mobile storage and administrative desks, giving each role the right tools to succeed.

The Results

The result was exactly what the customer envisioned, and more. The new center delivered cohesive design, smart solutions tailored to each department, and flexible furniture ready to adapt as needs evolve. What stood out most was the collaborative journey: the customer appreciated the personal attention, the ability to shape their spaces, and the confidence of knowing every detail was considered.
