Weatherford Police Department

Faced with the requisite call volumes of a community with more than 42,000 residents, the Weatherford Police Department knew its dispatch center needed more than just an equipment upgrade – it needed a transformation.

Partnering with Watson Consoles, a trusted name in public safety furniture design, that vision came to life. Together, we focused on delivering intentional ergonomic solutions, customizable workstations, and integrated storage, all at a console that is built to last. The result is a dispatch environment tailored for high performance and long-term comfort, purpose-built for the professionals who keep Weatherford connected and protected.

Project At A Glance

  • Building out the Weatherford Police Department’s dispatch center, which supports a team of telecommunicators serving a population of 42,752 and handling an average of 5,472 calls per month.
  • Primary Challenges: Supporting the customer’s tech and monitor needs for the array of the console to be able to hold two, 49-inch curved monitors stacked with a vertical monitor on the side, while also including ample storage to fit technology.
  • The project included eight consoles which included extended work surfaces, focal depth adjustment, and personal storage.

The Request

Weatherford dispatchers manage thousands of calls every month in a high-stress, high-stakes environment. Their vision for the new center focused on workstations that could support large, multi-monitor setups, provide ample personal workspace, and offer customization features like individual lighting and temperature controls. It was essential that the new design not only improved day-to-day functionality but also provided space to grow.

One of the most unique challenges was the technical requirement to support two stacked 49-inch curved monitors plus a vertical side monitor. This required precise ergonomic planning to maintain proper focal depth, weight distribution, and viewing angles especially critical for long shifts at the console.

The Solution

Watson Consoles delivered a highly customized solution that balanced advanced technology support with intentional ergonomics. Mercury Pro consoles were equipped with focal depth adjustment capabilities, ensuring operators could position their worksurface at the ideal distance to reduce eye strain and improve focus. Our monitor array solution securely supported the weight and size of the curved screens without any tilting or sagging, delivering confidence in day-to-day operations.

Each station was designed with integrated tech and personal storage, and every detail was planned to offer unparalleled support for both current and future needs. The supervisor and training positions were given extended work surfaces, enabling collaborative work and real-time guidance, whether for paperwork or mentoring.

Dispatchers also benefit from personalized features like adjustable lighting, integrated heater/fan controls, and space to manage paperwork efficiently. These features help dispatchers stay focused and comfortable throughout their shifts.

    The Results

Weatherford’s dispatchers report high satisfaction with their new workstations – especially the size, layout, and personal comfort options. Although the installation process had a few bumps, we prioritized follow-up support that provided responsive and smooth experience that satisfied the customer.

They like the large workspace, the lights, and the heater/fan. It gives them plenty of workspace when doing paperwork. It allows for customization of lights and temperature control for each Telecommunicator.
