Dispatchers benefit from healthier desk materials

As many of you know, Watson Consoles leads the industry when selecting materials that are both exceptionally durable and environmentally sound. Our Guiding Principles includes a commitment to Practical Environmentalism:

We adhere to Practical Environmentalism, an aggressive pursuit to minimize impact on our planet. We achieve this with a disciplined structure of environmental and financial accountability, and regular audits to improve materials use and waste disposal practices.

Part of our strategy to deliver top-performing, environmental conscious products includes using medium density fiberboard (MDF) and particle board for surface and storage construction. The multi-dimensional interlocking fibers mitigate the cracking and splitting that occurs in solid, wood-grain surfaces. MDF and particle board deliver the high-level, decade-plus durability that 24/7 shift-work environments desire.

Healthier wood composite certified SCS Gold + passes CA Standard 01350

In 2018 we reinforced our commitments to quality and the environment by transitioning all MDF and particle board to no-added-formaldehyde (NAF) material.

Despite the CARB ATCM 93120 exemption for reduced third-party certification of the NAF materials, we have completed testing and attained SCS Indoor Air Quality certification for all NAF composite materials used in our furniture. In the most recent test, we included and passed the California Standard 01350, which is even more rigorous than the SCS Advantage Gold standard.

Lucas Pearl, Watson Consoles Director of Product Development and Engineering conveys a sentiment we all share:

These results are exciting for customers seeking healthier work environments, and for our colleagues who interact with these materials every day and benefit from a healthier manufacturing environment. We’re glad to be here and glad to be making 911 dispatch furniture with people who care.
